Amarillo Texas: Walking to the car this morning there was an infestation of grasshoppers. There were thousands of them. Then we're pulling out of the hotel parking lot and Jody pipes up on the walkie talkies, "Hey, look to the right! Groundhogs!!! They look just like the movies; popping their heads out of the ground!" Sure enough, they were all over the place. Probably about 15 of them. It was so cool. Unfortunately both of us saw them as we were turning. No pics. :(
These were some of the intertesting things along the way. This cross is HUGE! Look at the size of the church next to it. The cross was then surrounded by smaller crosses, each about the size of an SUV.

This was hillarious!!! In Oklahoma they designated areas for the city and country dogs to pee. Kelly walked up to the country dog area then walked away and peed between the two. Pretty fitting. :)
Having a little fun.
Daren having a smoke break. He'd have one when he gets out and one before he gets in. Hopefully he'll give up the cancer sticks sometime soon. He's too good of a guy to lose to those things.
Kelly getting comfortable where ever she could. At one point she actually knocked the gear into Neautral. Little turkey!
Kenzi keeping herself entertained. lol. She did great. She'd play her gameboy, play road games, texted a lot, talked on the phone, played with Kelly and chatted with me. Approximately 40 hours in the car and 2480 miles....she did amazing!
Kelly is such a cutie!!! She's a great companion....we're gonna miss her.
Kelly seeking a little lovin.
One of the first little towns in Arkansas we came to. It was such a cute little town. The next town not so cute. lol.
Woooooohoooooo, we're on the home stretch.

The back roads to Hot Springs was so beautiful. It looked a lot like Oregon, so green and lush. Loved it!
Daren, Jody, Brooke and Slots pulling into their new home. Kelly was still riding with us.
Jody about to see her new place for the first time in person. Daren found this rental a few days before we left on our trip. He was out the week before for work. They both love the house. 2000+ square feet. It has 3 rooms, 2 bathrooms, livingroom, family room, laundry room, 3 skylights, fireplace, patio, shed, huge yard, pond, etc. Great place!!! The living room is kind of a unique shape. It'll be fun to see what they do with it. She can't wait to decorate. I can't wait to see the blogs on their progress. :)
Their cute little pond. There's even a little boat they can take out to float on. How cute. They're going to have a hard time keeping Kelly out of the pond. There's turtles in there too. :)

Those groundhogs would be Prairie Dogs! They live in colonies out on the plains. They have little hills all over the place and you see them standing up near them and popping their heads out to see what's going on. Usually one or two stand guard and bark warning at the others if something is approaching the colony. They're cool!
ReplyDeleteLooks like it was a great trip! Filled with some strange creatures and beautiful sights. Thanks for keeping us posted on Darren and Jody's journey to their great new home. We'll miss them.
